Drawing for 60 years

I've told this story before but as it's now been 60 years since this photo was taken I'll tell it again. I've been drawing for as long as I could hold a pencil, - or crayon originally. I used to draw on the kitchen cupboard door until my mum bought me that blackboard and easel to use instead. Gotta get those ideas drawn somehow!

Drawing for 60 years. No wonder I feel tired! :)

question is, have you improved in them 60 years? ^_^

Then move aside and let new creators get into the industry.

Quite the idyllic scene. Meanwhile in the wider world the Cuban Missile Crisis was probably gearing up.

You'd be around 2, nearly 3, when the picture was taken, I think. Do you have actual memories of those days drawing in the garden or is it just what your parents recounted to you?

I'm about a year younger than you but I don't recall much before the age of four. My two very earliest memories are both TV related from winter 1963. First, coverage of the Kennedy assassination and then, a week or so later, William Hartnell meeting cavemen. I think I also saw King Kong around that time too, though its hard to believe young me would have had the patience to sit still for the whole movie. After that its all a bit of a Dalek-fuelled blur until TV21 launched around the time I started school.

I have vague memories of that age but, yes, most of it is from what I was told and of course this actual photo.

Anon, no one is stopping you getting into the comics industry. Perhaps it's your bad manners.

Still a youngster compared to David Sutherland or Reg Parlett. Here's to many more years creating comics, Lew.
