"The moment has been prepared for"

Yes, you've all heard the news by now. Doctor Who is off the air... but for how long? As the Fourth Doctor said in his final scene many years ago, "It's the end... but the moment has been prepared for"!

While some pundits and podcasters are running around saying the series itself is cancelled, that's not strictly true. The 2026 Christmas Special is cancelled, the Bad Wolf production company are out, but the BBC are putting the series out to tender with the hope that it will be resurrected at some point. That may not be for a few years as it'll take time to assemble new contracts, a new direction, cast and crew, etc but we'll see.

However, Doctor Who the brand will carry on in the form of the Big Finish audio adventures, the upcoming Circuit Breaker multi-platform adventure, and of course the long running Doctor Who Magazine.

Yes, I have a vested interest in Doctor Who Magazine because I contribute my Daft Dimension strip to it every month, but I genuinely think it's a great magazine and always has been since it began in 1979. It's the perfect place for fans to read background info, interviews, and reviews, plus it has an ongoing Doctor Who comic strip, - the longest running TV tie in strip in comics history (as it originated in TV Comic back in 1964).

Maybe I'm being too optimistic but it's an increasingly harsh world and being pessimistic all the time does no one any good. Doctor Who will return... one day! Meanwhile, keep supporting the magazine!

A Variety of ORIGINAL COMIC ART in this week's auctions!

I've listed a bumper crop of original comic artwork in my auctions this week! A variety of pages from Sonic the Comic to the Beano! Here's what's on offer...

One that's sure to be sought after is a page from Sonic the Comic No.64, written by me, drawn by Richard Elson in 1995! Features an early appearance by the villainous Commander Brutus!

From way, way back in 1958, a Billy Bunter strip by the late, great Eric Roberts that he did for Knockout comic. Yaroo! Eric later went on the draw Winker Watson for The Dandy, and this Bunter page is a fine example of vintage British comic art.

Now on to the strips I've drawn. I'm selling the original cover artwork of Brickman No.1 (2025) and throwing in a free comic too. I very rarely sell my published Brickman art so don't miss out!

Two items of original art from the Beano. First, a Pup Parade strip from 2022 featuring all the Bash Street Dogs...

...and a full page Beano puzzle featuring Dennis the Menace, Minnie the Minx, Plug, Spotty, Danny and more from 2014...

Then it's way back to 1992 for this Tom Thug on Holiday page from Buster comic, with Tom and his family in Blackpool!

Forward to 2021 and a Daft Dimension strip from Doctor Who Magazine which includes Daleks!

...and finally an original drawing of Ally Sloper I did recently for Christmas!

ALL oriiginal artwork, no prints, no facsimiles. The auctions end on the evening of SUNDAY 25th JANUARY. All bids very much appreciated! Here's the link to the listings where you can see each item in detail...

Beano and Doctor Who art for sale

My latest art auction ends this Sunday (7th December) and it features two pieces of original comic art that should appeal to collectors.

People have been asking me to sell my Beano artwork so let's see how this goes. A full page Roger the Dodger puzzle page that I drew for Beano No.3954 back in 2018!

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/205892147667?itmmeta=01KBQQJEENC9YRKHV9PPA984XN&hash=item2ff020d9d3:g:-hcAAeSw7EFpL0E1

Next, as Doctor Who art is often snapped up, here's one of my Daft Dimension strips that features no less than three Doctors plus Clara! Published in Doctor Who Magazine No.593 in 2023...

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/205892164637?itmmeta=01KBQQJEEP4PYQFXBK5JS23GDG&hash=item2ff0211c1d:g:CYMAAeSw2VFpL0MZ

Remember that these are my original, hand drawn pages, not prints, not pages torn from comics, not facsimiles. (I have to say that because there are several sellers who do pretend such things are originals!)

All bids appreciated and best of luck!

Meet Mr. Ring-A-Ding in the latest Doctor Who Magazine!

I had to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement when I was commissioned for this one, and my art had to be approved by the BBC, but now it's published I can talk about it!

Mr Ring-A-Ding is a character who'll appear in episode two of the forthcoming new series of Doctor Who. Jason Quinn, the editor of Doctor Who Magazine felt it'd be a nice idea to have a page in the latest issue based on the character, in the same way that TV Comic etc featured strips based on tv cartoons.

So... Jason wrote a script for a Mr Ring-A-Ding comic strip, I drew it (based on character designs the BBC sent me), and it's in print today in Doctor Who Magazine No.615.

I wanted it to look a little different to my regular Daft Dimension strip in DWM so instead of hand lettering I used a dialogue font I'd created a while back that looked a bit like an old comic font. I chose not to give the speech balloons any borders so it'd look sort of similar to the old Gold Key comics of 60 years ago. For the same reason, I decided to leave the colours flat without shading.

I hope it works OK and readers enjoy this unusual one-off.

The magazine also includes another Daft Dimension mini-strip by me, this time bringing back the Zarbi, still worried about their public image problem.

There's a wealth of other material in the mag too of course; interviews, news, reviews, previews of the first three episodes of the new series, and lots more, plus it's bagged with extra items!

Doctor Who Magazine No.615. In shops now!

https://doctorwhomagazine.com/doctor-who-magazine/doctor-who-magazine-615/

Doctor Who returns to BBC One on Saturday 12th April. The episode featuring Mr Ring-A-Ding will be shown on 19th April.

Daleks: The Ultimate Guide!

Just in time for Christmas, Panini UK have published an impressive slipcased 224 page Doctor Who bookazine called Daleks: The Ultimate Guide which covers everything you need to know about 60 years of Dalek history on TV, in comics, toys, movies, books, and beyond. And there's even an interview with me in there regarding my regular Daft Dimension comic strip.

As a lifelong fan of the Daleks it's a privilege to be a small part of this bumper volume of facts, features, and photos. Edited by Marcus Hearn, who certainly knows his stuff, this slipcased bookazine should soon be available in WH Smiths or you can order it directly from the pubishers at this link:

MORE original comic art up for sale including a very early COMBAT COLIN page

I'm selling another batch of my original comic artwork and this listing includes the second episode of Combat Colin! I want to hold onto the first episode so this will be the earliest one I'm making available. It was published in Action Force No.6 back in 1987 and, yes, that's Loose Brayne (Brickman) making an unnamed guest appearance as the stall owner! (The story took place after he went walkabout at the end of the 1986 Brickman comic.)

You can see more detailed photos at this link...

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/204625625171?hash=item2fa4a34053:g:jrwAAOSw~y9lrWe1

I'm also selling an even earlier strip of mine. A page of Captain Wally that was done for Marvel UK's Spider-Man Comic way back in 1985. One of my first professional comic strips...

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/204625620606?hash=item2fa4a32e7e:g:v7oAAOSwN6plrWZY

Another vintage strip is this Pete and His Pimple page from Oink! No.22 (1987) drawn in black ink and grey wash...

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/204625614068?hash=item2fa4a314f4:g:PEUAAOSwLQJlrWQx

Finally, a more recent strip. The Daft Dimension original art from Doctor Who Magazine No.552 (2020) featuring a spoof of the first Doctor's farewell to his grand-daughter Susan...

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/204625616249?hash=item2fa4a31d79:g:QVkAAOSwsM5lrWVw

Bidding on these four items ends on Sunday 28th January. However, don't forget that there are five other pieces of my original art currently in an auction that ends this Thursday, 25th January. If you missed my post about those you'll find it at this link...

Happy 60th to Doctor Who!

At a comic con in Brighton in 2005.

It's 60 years to the day since the first episode of Doctor Who appeared on our TV screens. I'm not sure if I saw that first one at the time, but I definitely saw the first Daleks story which transmitted a few weeks later. Like most kids back then (I was 4 years old) it was the Daleks that hooked us onto the show. A year later and "Dalekmania" was the fad we all followed, with Dalek merchandise aplenty (or as much as our parents could afford). The Daleks was also my favourite comic strip when TV Century 21 launched in 1965.

A favourite Christmas present which I still have.

In the 1970s it was the Doctor Who strip in Countdown / TVAction that captivated my interest (and I'm currently re-watching the Jon Pertwee Doctor Who episodes on iPlayer.)

Art by Harry Lindfield.

I'm very grateful to the official Doctor Who Magazine for publishing my Daft Dimension comic strip every issue for the past several years. A pleasure to contribute to a magazine that I bought from issue 1 back in 1979 when it was Doctor Who Weekly. Here's one of my favourite Daft Dimension strips that I did in 2016...

Doctor Who returns to our screens with the first of three weekly TV specials on Saturday 25th November starring David Tennant as the 14th Doctor.

The Christmas issue of Doctor Who Magazine will be on sale on Thursday 7th December.

I'm currently selling the original artwork of some of my Daft Dimension strips on eBay, which you'll find at this link:
