Even rarer is DICE MANIC from IPC's OINK! comic (1987). A very short lived character I created who only appeared twice. This is his second and last appearance and the only one in colour. The plastic overlay with the dialogue balloons is also included:

DICE MANIAC 2 (OINK!, 1987)

On this day in 1987, one of the strips I had in Oink! comic No.39 was Dice Maniac! This was the second (and last) strip I did featuring the character. I can't recall exactly why I only did two. Most likely I felt the gimmick was already wearing thin, or, perhaps as the name was a spoof of Fleetway's Dice Man comic I felt it wouldn't be relevant when that comic suddenly ended. Or perhaps it was because I was very busy in 1987 and just never got around to it.

In retrospect my art was a bit sketchy back then. I'd only been in the business for a few years and was still developing. (Still am!) I was colouring with water colours in those days, not always with the desired effect. As I've mentioned before, I prefer colouring digitally far more and think it suits my style better.

DICE MANIAC! (1987)

As you probably know by now, over on his OiNK! BLOG, Phil Boyce is reviewing each issue of Oink! in the order they were published. The latest post covers issue No.22 from February 1987 and includes a story I'd totally forgotten about! 

Dice Maniac was a satire of the role-playing game comics that were around at the time. I'd even based the name and logo design on IPC's Dice Man comic, which was a sadly short-lived title that contained some quality work. (Seek it out if you can.) 

I remember now that I did a second Dice Maniac strip for a later issue of Oink!, that was in full colour. Anyway, for today, here's the first one, shown above. I actually made myself laugh when I read it as I'd forgotten what happened, so thanks to 1987 me for cheering up 2022 me. :)
