Combat Colin on his way all over the UK

This morning I posted another dozen copies of Combat Colin No.3 to people all over the UK who had ordered copies (above). Tomorrow I'll be posting the stack shown below. And a few more every day this week.
Many thanks for your orders so far. Issue 3 is doing as well as previous issues in its launch week and although orders are bound to slow down soon I'm pleased with the response.

Of course, after PayPal's taken it's cut and the taxman takes his, I don't make much out of self publishing, but it breaks even at least... AND people who have been wanting my old strips back in print get their wish, so all's well!

If you're interested in buying copies of issue 3 or previous comics, you can order them directly from me here:

Combat Colin No.3 is here!

To confirm what I hoped in my previous post, I will have a limited number of copies of Combat Colin No.3 on sale exclusively from my table at Nottingham Comic Con this Saturday, 20th October. (It will be available to order online next week when I've received more copies.)

Combat Colin No.3 is another 40 page issue reprinting classic Combat Colin strips that originally appeared in Marvel UK's Transformers comic. This issue covers the period from July 1989 to February 1990 when the strip hit its stride, with Colin (and his assistant Semi-Automatic Steve) encountering monsters, aliens, and new bad guys.

The comic also has a few back-up bonus features, including a look back at the comics that inspired me to create Combat Colin!

Come along to Nottingham Comic Con on Saturday to buy a copy!

See you in Nottingham!

It's Nottingham Comic Con this Saturday (20th October) and you'll find me there, on the lower level at table 49. (See above.) The venue is the Nottingham Conference Centre NG1 4BU.

More info at their website:
http://www.nottinghamcomiccon.co.uk

This is the first time for me at this event so I'm looking forward to it. I've heard good things about this show and it's totally dedicated to comics, so you know that everyone who attends is interested in comics, not actors or wrestlers!

This will be my final convention appearance for this year. My next one is a long way off yet, April of next year.

I'll be bringing along my comics to sell, and hopefully launching Combat Colin No.3 at the event! Another 40 page issue packed with lunacy, collecting stories from 1989 into early 1990. They're only available from me so come along and buy one! (Mail order will be available next week.)

Getting Combat Ready!

I've met all my deadlines for this week so now I'll have time to get back to putting together Combat Colin No.3. Thanks for your patience, considering I originally intended to publish it in May!

I'll be scanning it directly from my original artwork, which will take a day or two, then I need to create a new cover, and produce some back-up features. Hopefully I'll send it all off to my printers next week and it'll be published sometime in October.

That's the current plan anyway! Remember to bookmark this blog for more updates about Combat Colin and my other comics news!

Combat Colin No.3 news update

My thanks to everyone who's bought a copy of the first two issues of Combat Colin (which are still available here). My initial plan was to bring out No.3 in mid-May, but due to commitments on my other strips, and fighting off a virus, that won't be possible now.

So... the new plan is to publish Combat Colin No.3 in late June to mid-July. I'll be starting on it soon, so that should be achievable. This issue may include one or two special back up features, which I'll keep under wraps for now.

I will of course be posting exclusive updates about the comic on this blog and on my Facebook page:
https://en-gb.facebook.com/lewstringercartoonist/

In the meantime, above is a preview of the first strip in issue 3, which introduces Headline Howard, ace reporter for the Wednesday Wart! Originally published in The Transformers No.226, back in July 1989.

News about Combat Colin No.3

My thanks to all of you who have bought the first two issues of Combat Colin! It's doing well, and I'll be starting work on issue 3 soon. The plan was to bring out No.3 in mid-May, but I think it's more likely to be sometime in June now, with No.4 following later in the year.

You may be wondering why it takes so long just to do "a reprint comic" as one person dismissed it as. Well, for a start I can only work on the comic when I don't have deadlines for my mainstream work. (Combat Colin sells well for a small press comic, but it's Toxic, Doctor Who Magazine and the others that bring in the money to pay the bills.)

Each page has to be scanned from scratch, either from the original artwork (if I have it) or from the old comics. Then each panel has to be digitally cleaned up. Sometimes that can be done quickly but it depends on the quality of the page I've scanned from.

Then, there's new cover art to draw and colour, and any text pages to write and design. When all's done and double-checked, the files are sent to the printers, which is usually a couple of weeks to turn around the order because the printer is a busy man and in demand 'cos he does such a fantastic job.

So... that's why I decided on doing an issue of Combat Colin only once every several months. I hope you don't mind the wait!

As always, I'll be posting regular updates about the next issue as it develops, so stay tuned!
