Friday Fun: Combat Colin

It's been a while since I posted an old Combat Colin strip on this blog so here's a page I did for Marvel UK's The Transformers No.252, way back in 1990! (Click image to see it larger.)

As well as writing and drawing Combat Colin I also did all the lettering, sound effects, and logos. Although in retrospect I feel that camouflage-effect logo was too cluttered and messy. Sometimes I'd do complete stories like this one, sometimes short serials, and I'd often design specific logos for each serial.

I'm amazed to think this was 25 years ago. One of these days I'll have to publish a collection of these strips.

One of these days...

I love this so much. Everything from the saucepan signal to the policemans comedy 'tache to Steve breaking the fourth wall...with his nose. Its amazing how this strip doesn't feel like it has aged at all, whilst the Transformers stories it accompanied feel very much of their time. The collected Combat Colin along with the collected The Cloak have been top of my wish list of unpublished collections forever!

Thanks. Always good to hear from people who 'get' my work. Hopefully there'll be collections of both those strips over the next couple of years, time and finances willing.

Combat Colin used to be the highlight of my week back when I could look forward to Saturdays. I would love to see a collected book of their adventures. Any chance of you putting 'Secret of the combat trousers' up on here?

I think that's a distinct possibility, John! Thanks for your comment. Always good to hear from people who read my work when they were younger.
