Comics in stock!

I never do Kickstarters or "pre-orders" so you know that when I advertise my comics they're available and ready to post, and I'll never say they're available when they're not.

At the moment, the comics of mine that you can buy are Brickman No.1, Fanzine Funnies, and Combat Colin issues 3,4, and 5. They are only available to buy directly from me at the link below:

Photos from LONDON COMIC FESTIVAL 2025

Big thanks to Tony Lee, Amy McGarry-Thickett, Antony McGarry-Thickett, and their tireless team for making sure the London Comic Festival ran smoothly last weekend, and for looking after the guests so well. All the attendees I spoke to were enjoying it too!

Part of the London Film and Comic Con, the London Comic Festival took place at Olympia in Kensington as usual, and was a very pleasant weekend indeed.

Huge thanks also of course to everyone who stopped by my table to buy a comic and/or sketch and have a chat. This was only my second comic con this year and I'd missed the interactions with the readers so it was very much appreciated.

It was so good to catch up with my good friends in the comics industry. Some I've known for decades, some I only met this year. The nice thing about these shows is we're all of different ages and backgrounds which reflects the diversity of the comics biz and even keeps an old fogie like me feeling young at heart.

Far too many people to mention, and I'm bound to forget some anyway, so here's a selection of photos from the Sunday. The only downside is it'll be a while before we meet up again.

I took less comics this time but they all sold very well.

Dennis the Menace artist Nigel Parkinson!

My old OINK! pal David Leach and his fine set of comics.

With artists Chris Geary and, from Madrid, Patricia Martin.

Outstanding cartoonist Roger Langridge!

Actor/comic artist Jessica Martin won a Hall of Fame Award this year!

Wrtiter Simon Furman also won a Hall of Fame Award (not pictured).

Editor/publisher Ben Cullis of The77 Publications

Steve Tanner and Dave West of Time Bomb Comics.

Lee Sullivan, Andrew Cartmel, and Jessica Martin on a panel.

Roger Langridge, me, Ellie Wright, and Nigel Parkinson on a panel.

Adrian Clarke, publisher of SHIFT and other comics.

Pau Scorpi and her fantastic artwork.

End of the show. Mike Collins, Dylan Teague, David Leach and I have left the building.

I don't know when, or if, I'll be doing any more shows this year. Nothing scheduled for the immediate future but hopefully I'll be invited somewhere, somewhen! Follow this blog for updates.

The Glasgow Looking Glass is back after 199 years

One for those of you who wish old comics would return. After a gap of 199 years, The Glasgow Looking Glass is back in a new edition! Claiming to be the world's first comic (and who are we to doubt it), The Glasgow Looking Glass was launched in 1825... and now it's back with an all-new issue!

With 12 pages in tabloid size on newsprint, the modern edition features satirical cartoons by modern cartoonists, and even one by an oldie such as myself (see above).

There's also a two page article by John McShane on the history of the comic.

I believe this is a one-off for now, but who knows? Perhaps it'll be back again in another 200 years.

You can buy a copy directly from the editor Colin Maxwell at his online shop at this link:

See you at the LONDON COMIC FESTIVAL this weekend!

It's time for my second (and possibly last) convention this year as I head off to London for the London Comic Festival which is part of London Film and Comic Con

Dates: Saturday 5th July and Sunday 6th July.

Venue: Olympia, Kensington.

Where to find me: Lower Grand, Table 21 near the Comic Stage.

The layout looks somewhat different this year so please seek out my table.

Here's my banner to look out for...

I'll be bringing along my comics plus doing commissioned sketches of any one character on an A4 sheet. (Preferably characters I've worked on, or other humour characters.)

I'm also scheduled to be on a panel on Sunday morning with Nigel Parkinson, talking about our work. That's on the Comic Stage.

See you there!

A memorable day at MACC-POW 2025

Being publicly awarded a figurine of myself, presented to me by someone dressed as one of my characters, sounds like something out of a mad dream after eating cheese before bedtime... but that's exactly what happened last Saturday afternoon! (The award, not the cheese eating.)

The place was Macc-Pow, Macclesfield's annual Comic art Festival which this year celebrated its tenth anniversary. The always-enjoyable event at Macclesfield Town Hall was busier than ever this time, and it was good to meet so many attendees, some familiar faces and some newcomers.

Rachael Smith and David Leach

It was also good to catch up with my comics pals as this was my first comic con since last July! Great to see Rachael Smith, David Leach, Laura Howell, Mike Perkins, Abby Bulmer, Steve Tanner, Dave West, Kev F Sutherland, Shane Chebsey, Paul Gravett, Roger Langridge, and many more, including of course organiser / cartoonist Marc Jackson!

Marc Jackson and his old pal Ché Michaels

At the end of the show, Marc gathered everyone for an announcement. He said that when he was growing up reading Marvel UK comics there was one artist who's work inspired him the most. Surprisingly he was talking about me! He then invited me to come forward and receive the "Legend in Cartooning Award" for my 42 years in the business. The award was a one of its kind figurine. My own "Mini-Me"!

Brickman presents me with the award.

John D Payne, who last year had cosplayed as Combat Colin, had arrived this year as Brickman! I felt honoured that anyone would cosplay as my characters and John did a great job with getting it right. Even the fake brick looked real! Marc asked John to present me with my award as Brickman. I don't know if my acceptance speech made any sense as I was in a bit of a daze by the attention and surreal situation, but it was very much appreciated and a privilege to receive it. I'm very touched and grateful, and thankful to Marc Jackson and Macc-Pow for the award which I'll always treasure.

John D Payne as Brickman!

Last but not least, huge thanks must also go to the person who sculpted the figurine of course! Ché Michaels did a fantastic job of the likeness, which thankfully has a slimmer waistline than my own, so my target now is to lose weight to match the trophy!

Another piece of news was that the second GOOF summer special was launched at Macc-Pow. Edited by Marc Jackson, it gathers together numerous humour comics creators in one comic. Contributors include Tor Freeman, Hilary Barta, Rachael Smith, James Kochalka, Tom Scioli, me and more! You can buy it directly from Marc at his Ko-Fi page here:
