Secret Life of Teachers

I'm not in the Beano regularly these days unfortunately but I was asked to draw a full page strip for the next issue. The Secret Life of Teachers is written by Nigel Auchterlounie and features a different Bash Street School teacher every week, drawn by a different artist every week. The upcoming one was drawn by me and it appears in Beano No.4149 on sale Wednesday 17th August. Here's a small preview!

Good stuff, but is there a panel showing us shaking our heads at parents who can’t control two or three of their own kids when we have to manage as many as thirty-three? More -a lot more - if it’s playground duty.

No, but I get your point. I never saw any need to misbehave when I was a child. Why would I want to upset my parents? If I did do wrong they soon told me. A shout from my dad would shock me out of it and I didn't do it again. I don't understand why some kids continually act up.

BSK Teacher, Miss Mistry, Mr Throbb, Mr Headington, that should just leave Mrs Creecher, the current headteacher, unless they include the non-teaching staff (Janitor, Olive).

Headington was always a lazybones, it's no surprise that he didn't get his old Headmaster job back when Mr DeTesta left a few years ago. That PE teacher job was a nice bit of irony for the character. A guy who hates exercise having to teach physical education. The kids in Beanotown must be glad to have him and not the guy in that first panel in your story!

That would be a very dull comic strip, kids who behave

True, but we were talking about real life, where the little brats should respect their parents. :D

I don't know how long the strip runs for, James. I'm presuming six weeks. Do the school holidays still last that long? Perhaps it'll be less and something else will replace it. I've absolutely no idea.

Thai looks amazing! Can I just say, I’m a huge fan. I’m in love with the clean sort of style you bring to the beano! I’ve loved your comic strips like super school, rasher , pup parade and even your smaller additions such as Ellis the elephant and big eggo. You DESERVE to get more credit and draw for the beano more than you currently do!

Thanks, that's very kind of you to say so. I love working for the Beano and wish I did more but that's the way it is. I'm currently drawing a joke page for an October issue. Hoping it leads to more. Thanks again for youyr support!
