If you missed your chance to download Barmy Comix No.1 it's still available! Exclusively digital only, Barmy Comix is a 32 page high definition compilation I put together during lockdown two years ago. It features some "best bits" of Combat Colin, Brickman, Derek the Troll and Pedantic Stan, plus a 9 page preview of Combat Colin No.5.
It should download to any device anywhere in the world. It's best read on a desktop or laptop but you can also access it on a smartphone where you can zoom in on the artwork.
You can download it from this link:

It's free to download but I really would appreciate a donation of £2 when you've read it, or maybe just because you enjoy this blog and my work? You can donate to me via PayPal at this link:

Thanks in advance!
Now, I can tell you there will be a Barmy Comix No.2 at some point. The contents will be different to the first issue and the focus will be on a different character. More news when it's ready!

While it's good to see another one of your Barmy Comix collections, I can probebly guess some more ongoing delyies for Combat Colin ^_^ no problem.
Though I wonder.. would the free collections allow, say "stories which can't be reprinted for license reasons", which is a suprising large amount of your stuff in a way..
The point is, Barmy Comix isn't free. I'd really prefer people to pay £2 for it rather than just take it (as sadly most people seem to be doing).
Even if it was free, I still couldn't put material in that I didn't own. Copyright pertains to the publishing and distribution of material, whether in print or digital. Giving it away free makes no difference, which is why piracy is illegal.
It is free tho if you don't click the second link. I got mine for nothing!
Why do I even bother?
So much entitlement out there.
Point.. I paid the £2 or my copy when it came out and very much worth the price.
Though I was wondering because it works a donation more then charging but.. yeah.. looking up.. I should have remembered that of course it counts as charging. It's the same as when idiots think 'crowding funding to support a fan film' doesn't count as charging money for it and they don't have to worry about copyright when they do.
I'm a bit iffy on some of the 'fair use' when it comes to comic strips.. comics themselves, sure.. if you use over a set percentage.. but when it comes to, say, a 4 panel comic.. would 1 panel, being 25% be over it? but then it depends and.. soo complex. Thus freelances have accountants and often lawers they can talk to and ask ^_^
Thanks for paying it when you downloaded it a couple of years ago. Appreciated. Sadly only two people have paid for their downloads in the past 24 hours. Ah well.
Fair use is just common sense really. You wouldn't want to give away the punchline in a comic strip so the first panel only would be fair use.
You gave us a free download so you cant guilt trip us into paying for it now.
I'm not "guilt tripping" anyone. When I launched it in 2020 I actually said on this blog "It's free to download but I'm not earning a great deal at the moment so if you want to donate £2 after you've read the comic...".
The actual process of downloading it is free because I can't add a price basket to Google Drive but I would hope that if people like my work they'll pay for it, not just take it and ignore my request for a £2 donation.
"It's free to download" is the vital part. You asking for money AGAIN is just tacky.
Am I the only person here getting tired of Lew asking for money all of the time? Answers below if you have the courage!!
some people are pretty.. erm.. I can't think of a tactful way of saying stupid and pretty damn insulting... well.. I guess that is the more tactful way of saying it..
though this is one reason I do point out to some people can be too nice..
SamSam, this is my business blog where I promote my work. If you don't like it, don't visit.
No more anonymous comments will be published here. I've turned off the anon option. I'm getting too old and weary to deal with such moaning and entitlement.
I don't unstand people who always want something for nothing. Appreciated Lews work, so donated slightly more than was asked, and would have more if it fitted my budget. If it hasn't fitted my budget I wouldn't have downloaded. I'm sure very few people would provide any of their work for nothing. Would hope that any reasonable person would feel their conscience prick if they had enjoyed someone's work but not been ethical enough to contribute a more than reasonable donation. The level of people's selfishness really astounds me these days 😕
Thanks Kevin, and thanks very much for your contribution. Really appreciate it.
I thought £2 would be affordable for everyone and a good price for a 32 page comic. I don't understand why some are quibbling about it or just ignoring it. If they don't like my work, fair enough, but presumably they visit here because they like what I do and they know what to expect if they download it.
Nice download Lew and well worth £2. Can't understand that comment on you only asking for a contribution for this def someone with a hidden agenda there.
Thank you Paul! Hope all's well.
Yep, whatever anon's intentions were they won't be posting here again now I've turned off anonymous postings.
Another Barmy Comics is good news. I'll look out for that and pay above the going rate when it's released.
Pleased to see that most of the comments here support your model. There's always one or two that will that will feel entitled. Least said about those the better. They're what Will Eisner and Jules Feiffer would have lettered as %&#$ing #$%$s,
Thanks Tony. I'm not sure where the comics are that I need to scan in for Barmy Comix No.2 but as soon as I find them I'll crack on with it.
