Beano strips - free to read!

The Beano have made a load of their old mini-strips free to read on their official website. It includes several Rasher strips I did for the comic a few years ago. (I always enjoyed doing those.)

Follow this link to see one of the strips and explore the page when you get there to see more:

RASHER returns for a guest spot!

This was a pleasant surprise today. Back in February I was commissioned to write/draw a one-off Rasher strip for the Beano. In the end it wasn't used due to lack of space, but it's turned up in the latest issue!

As you know, I've drawn three (or is it four) series of Rasher over the years and he's one of my favourite Beano characters to script and illustrate. I've no idea if he'll ever be back on a regular basis but you'll get to see one new Rasher strip in the Beano No.4048, in the shops this Wednesday 12th August. Here's the cover to look out for...

Pets theme BEANO sees the return of Pup Parade for one week

With it being National Pet Month the Beano is giving next week's issue a pet theme, bringing back some old favourites for one week only including a special full page Pup Parade story! (This one was actually a previously unpublished page I did back in 2016 so I'm glad it'll finally see print.)

There's also another episode from me of Ellis's Great Escapes! How will he escape this week?
Don't miss the Beano No.4030, on sale Wednesday 8th April. You can subscribe, or buy the digital edition, from the Beano website at this link:
https://www.beano.com/subscribe

Ellis is only having a short run in the Beano and I'm not sure what the future holds (I know, none of us do at present) so if you're a reader remember to let them know which strips you like.

NOTE: I'd previously announced that Rasher would be in this week's issue, as I'd been commissioned to do a new one-off featuring him, but unfortunately it looks like there wasn't room in the end. Hopefully it'll appear in a future issue.

Captain Hamerica

Deliberately planned to coincide with Captain America: Civil War being in the cinema, in this week's Beano I have Rasher dreaming of being Captain Hamerica!

There's no Pup Parade this week unfortunately for some reason, but they do have several episodes in stock (and I've just sent off another) so the series will run for a few weeks yet at least. Hopefully it'll be back next week.

This week's strips

There seems to be a food and drink theme to my strips this week! In The Beano, Fatty guest-stars in my Rasher strip, while over in Doctor Who Magazine No.499, the Eighth Doctor swigs an elixir in my Daft Dimension strip.

Both available now from any good newsagent and supermarket!

On the shelves this week...

Here's a few quick snapshots of the strips I have in print this week. In D.C. Thomson's The Beano there's another full page Pup Parade...

...a Rasher mini-strip...

...and a puzzle page featuring Sniffy!

Over in Egmont's Toxic magazine there's a two page Team Toxic strip as they encounter The Tentacles of Doom

You'll find both The Beano (£2.50) and Toxic (£2.99) in newsagents and supermarkets across the UK. Support British comics!

This week's strips

The new strip I've been hinting at begins in today's issue of The Beano. Yes, it's the return of Pup Parade, starring The Bash Street Dogs in new full page adventures! I was overjoyed when The Beano asked me to revive the series and I hope I've done a decent job. Big shoes to fill of course, from the original artist Gordon Bell, through a variety of artists over the years, not forgetting Steve Beckett who drew it recently.

There's also another Rasher mini-strip by me in this issue too! This now runs for seven weeks so three more to come after this one.

Over in Doctor Who Magazine there's another Daft Dimension strip by me, which this time features the Daleks! On sale Thursday 31st March.

As you can see, I thought I'd show you my finished artwork alongside photos of the original artwork. Hope it's of interest.

Frantically busy week ahead. Drawing the next Daft Dimension tonight, Pup Parade tomorrow, Team Toxic over the weekend (and the final Rasher), and a new Combat Colin three pager next week (for Aces Weekly). And somewhere along the way I need to email my replies for an interview that's waiting to be published. Plus I have a cough developing. Life of a freelancer!

Rasher and Walter

Here's a quick peek at my Rasher strip for the upcoming issue of The Beano. My other strip should be starting any time now too. More news soon! Never Be Without A Beano, - on sale Wednesday 30th March.

Muddy pig!

As you all know that Rasher is back in The Beano now, here's an advance look at the second strip in the new series. Yep, Rasher's been wallowing in the mud again! See the full strip in The Beano, on sale Wednesday 16th March.

RASHER is back!

In today's issue of The Beano the first of my two new strips begins. Yes, Rasher is back for a short series of mini-strips! This is my fourth series of Rasher strips (or fifth, counting the time it changed title to Watch Hog) and it will run for six issues. I always enjoy drawing Dennis' pet pig. Hope you enjoy reading it!

The Beano No.3826, out now, £2.50. Here's the cover (by Nigel Parkinson) to look out for...

Rasher's farewell

This week's Beano (out now) sees the final Rasher strip in this series (which was postponed from last week) and my last work for the comic for a while. Such is the unpredictable nature of being a freelancer but I hope to be commissioned for new strips in the near future. I've had a good run in The Beano and I'm proud to have been part of such a great line up of artists and writers during such a great period for the comic. The Beano is still brilliant every week so Never Be Without it!

This week's Rasher preview

Here's an advance preview of an unlettered panel from the Rasher strip I did for an upcoming issue of The Beano. This is the final one in this run, and unfortunately my last work for the weekly for the time being but I hope to be commissioned for more strips soon. Work will commence on the 2017 dated annuals in a few months (yes we work that far in advance) so hopefully I'll be doing a few pages for those.

Thanks for continuing to follow this blog. I really appreciate it. I'll continue to keep you updated on my current work and also post some items about the comics I've worked on over the last 32 years.

Rasher doing what he does best

Here's Rasher stuffing his face again in this week's Beano, out now! It's always a pleasure to draw Dennis the Menace's pet pig although this current run of strips is almost over. I've drawn four series featuring him so far (if we include the short-lived Watch-Hog series he starred in). Hopefully I'll be commissioned to do a fifth series at some point.

Beano 3775 preview

The 3775th issue of The Beano is out today and it's a special Comic Relief themed edition with a red and gold cover. My two regular mini-strips are in there; Rasher and Joe King. (Rasher guest-stars in the Joe King strip this week so pig-fans get a double helping of his porky pranks.)

The Rasher strip was drawn last October, and it features a snowy setting because I (wrongly) presumed it'd be printed in December or January. Still, I'm sure that with climate change it's probably snowing somewhere in the UK in March.

The Beano No.3775, on sale now and still only £2.20. Look for the red and gold cover by Nigel Parkinson and read more about this special issue here:

The Beano No.3774. Out now!

Also, a quick reminder that I now have a public Facebook page where I upload art previews so if you want to 'follow' you'll find it here:

Beano No.3773 preview

Here's a quick glimpse at the two mini-strips I have in this week's Beano. First up, Rasher feels it's good to be a pig, wallowing in the mud while Dennis is tasked with the chores, then in Joe King our compulsive funster is in trouble with his teacher.

There's loads of other strips in the comic too of course; 36 pages packed with all-new fun with the regulars such as Dennis, Roger, and Minnie. What other British comic has entertained kids of all ages for 77 years? (Answer: None! Although the much-missed Dandy came close with its 75 year run of course.)

This week's issue comes bagged with a free copy of 110% Gaming magazine. No strips in that, but if you or your kids like games it'll be right up your street.

Treat yourself to a copy of The Beano today. Only £2.20.

Windy day on Wednesday

Here's a preview from this week's Beano and the guest stars in my Rasher strip are two of the Bash Street Dogs! That's one of the great things about working for The Beano. As all of the characters are based in 'Beanotown' they can interact in each other's strips, so we get the opportunity to draw characters we wouldn't usually do.

UPDATE: Unfortunately this and other mini-strips were replaced by an advert but hopefully it'll appear next week.

Latest Beano preview

Here's a quick glimpse at the mini-strips I have in this week's Beano. Rasher dreams of being Ham Solo in Sty Wars...
...while in the latest Joe King strip, Toots from the Bash Street Kids makes a guest appearance...

I'm guessing there must be a school break coming up as this week's issue is bagged with a bunch of gifts and costs £3.20. Here's what to look out for...
