TIME PANTS!

What happens when mad scientist Black Hole Bert gives Postman Prat a pair of Time Pants to help him deliver his letters on time? Find out in The Dandy Annual 2021.

This is just one of four double page Postman Prat stories I did for the book, plus eight Keyhole Kate mini-strips. Cheer yourselves up this winter with the latest annuals, in the shops now!

Postman Prat meets Keyhole Kate!

It was inevitable that as both of them live in Dandytown that Postman Prat would eventually run into Keyhole Kate on his rounds. After all, she spends most of her time peeking through keyholes, and Prat is delivering the mail so...

The meeting is brief but it's connected to the main plot of a Postman Prat two pager in The Dandy Annual 2021, out now! There are also three other Postman Prat double pagers in there plus no less that eight Keyhole Kate mini-strips! Grab your copy now!

It's July and here are the 2021 Annuals!

Yes, it's that time of the year again when the annuals are published and my order for The Dandy Annual 2021 and The Beano Annual 2021 arrived this morning.
I've been looking forward to these ever since I drew the strips last year! (We work well in advance on annuals.) Here's the content I have in these books...

For The Dandy Annual 2021:
Script, art, colouring, lettering on 4 double page Postman Prat stories.
Script, art, colouring, lettering on 8 Keyhole Kate mini-strips.
Art / colouring / design on two activity pages (Prat and Kate).

For The Beano Annual 2021:
Script, art, colouring on 4 Lord Snooty mini-strips.

Each book is hardback, full colour throughout, with 112 pages of all new material. Other artists include Nigel Parkinson, Jamie Smart, Laura Howell, Mike Collins, and more. Available now from the D.C. Thomson Shop:

As I said earlier, we work well ahead on the annuals and I'm currently drawing a Keyhole Kate page for The Dandy Annual 2022!

Shop early for Christmas! The 2021 annuals are coming this July!

The Dandy and Beano Annuals for 2021 are now ready for pre-order (published next month). I did quite a few pages for The Dandy Annual, and a few Lord Snooty mini strips for The Beano Annual. You can order them separately or together: https://www.dcthomsonshop.co.uk/books/children-s/double-trouble-pack-2021
Covers by David Parkin and Nigel Parkinson.

It's at this point where some people always claim the annuals used to come out at Christmas. Nope, they were always published many months before. We associate them with Christmas because that's when we usually received them, but I remember my grandad treating me to a Wham! Annual on a day trip to Blackpool back in September 1971. I even still have the receipt inside the book!

Postman Prat returns this year!

D.C. Thomson have unveiled the cover to The Dandy Annual 2021 and it's a cracker! (A homage to Incredible Hulk Annual No.1 perhaps?) The cover art is by David Parkins.

The Dandy Annual 2021 will feature all new stories of Dandy favourites from over the years. Amongst the line-up are Desperate Dan drawn by someone new to the strip (I'll leave it up to him to reveal the news :)), Bully Beef and Chips (drawn by Laura Howell), George and the Dragon (drawn by Andy Fanton), Pre-School Prime Minister (by Jamie Smart) and Postman Prat and Keyhole Kate by me.

For this book I was commissioned to write/draw four double page Postman Prat stories, eight Keyhole Kate mini-strips, and a Postman Prat board game, so I was pleased with that lot!

There's a preview of one panel from Postman Prat at the top of this post. No more sneak peeks of Prat until later this year... at least not from the annual (he says cryptically).

The Dandy Annual 2021 goes on sale in July / August and will be available to pre-order soon from online sellers.

Busy days ahead!

It's often "feast or famine" as a freelancer. Metaphorically of course. Clearly I've never experienced a famine. After a very quiet start to the year I'm going to be really busy over the next few weeks!

I'm currently drawing a new Keyhole Kate strip for The Dandy Annual 2021, and have a Postman Prat story to draw for it too this week. (Yes, Prat's back! Yay!) Unfortunately you guys won't get to see the book until July 2020! - but here's a sneak peek at my pencils (above) for Keyhole Kate.

Then I'll be off to Macc-Pow! this Saturday at Macclesfield Town Hall, along with lots of other guests such as Nigel Parkinson, Rachael Smith, Hunt Emerson, David Leach and many more! It's free admission so hope to see you there!
http://maccpow.co.uk
Then as soon as I'm back from Macc-Pow! I'll be straight into a new strip that I can't talk about yet but if all goes well I'll be able to reveal all at the end of the month! Deadlines on this are very tight, so I'll need to give it my full attention next week.

I've also just been commissioned for a new series for a popular comic, and the first script is due this week. More on that in a few weeks!

After that, I'll be finishing off the concluding chapter of Derek the Troll for the final issue of Goof!, drawing more pages to for The Dandy Annual 2021, a few Lord Snooty mini-strips to do for The Beano Annual 2021, my regular Daft Dimension strip for Doctor Who Magazine, my column for Comic Scene, putting together Combat Colin No.4, and anything else I can fit in.

It's going to be intense, so wish me luck!
