Thank you Nottingham!

Thanks to Baden James-Mellonie for the photo.

Nottingham Comic Con was good fun. Although the huge MCM London show was on the same day attendance at Nottingham was steady and it was good to do a few sketches for people who dropped by. Thank you to those of you who bought a sketch and/or a comic. It's always good to meet the readers and I'm grateful to you for appreciating my work.

It was great to catch up with comics pals there; Marc Jackson, Ben Conan Cullis, Shane Chebsey, Roger Langridge, David Hichcock, Staz Johnson, Kev F. Sutherland, Emily McGorman-Bruce, Dan Whitehead, Baden James Mellonie, and (very) briefly see Ian Edginton, Paul McCaffrey, Matt Brooker, and others. Thanks to Kev Brett for organising the event and inviting me.

That's me done for conventions this year I think. I had to miss some for various reasons but the four I did attend (Bristol, Macclesfield, London, and Nottingham) were very welcome after two years of shows being on hold. I'd missed fellow comics people and meeting the readers. Here's to more in 2023!

Thanks to Marc Jackson for snapping this photo.

See you at Nottingham Comic Convention!

I'm loking forward to Nottingham Comic Convention tomorrow (Saturday 29th October) and hope to see some of you there. You'll find me on Lower Level 00 of the Nottingham Conference Centre and (above) is the banner to look out for. This will be the last time I'll be using this banner as I need to update it with a new design next year.

I'll be bringing along my comics: Combat Colin 2 and 3, Derek the Troll, and a few remaining Brickman Begins! I've also found some spare copies of Buster from 1991, unread, so I'll be selling those too, signed, if anyone wants one.

I'll also be drawing sketches on request if you're interested in original A4 sized art for your wall. I have a Zettle card reader so card payment or cash is fine.

The show runs from 10 a.m to 5 p.m.

See you tomorrow!

Where to find guests and exhibitors at the Nottingham Comic Convention

The table plan for the Nottingham Comic Convention has just been released. You'll find my table L23 at the Lower Level 00, between my pals Marc Jackson and The77 Publications.

The event takes place next Saturday (29th October) at the Nottingham Conference Centre. You can check out the convention website for all the info and ticket details...

https://nottinghamcomiccon.co.uk/

The show will be on two levels, with other guests and exhibitors on Upper Level 01.

From past experience of some other conventions, some attendees don't always realise there are more than one room to events but hopefully this one will be well signposted within the halls.

I'll be doing sketches on request, selling my comics, and signing comics if you wish. This is my last show for 2022 and I have nothing else scheduled for months so it'll be good to see you there!

Nottingham Comic Con for October 29th

A reminder that I'll be one of the guests at Nottingham Comic Con on Saturday 29th October, just 8 days away. This will be my first convention since July, and may be my last this year, so I'm really looking forward to it.

I'll be doing sketches on request and bringing along some of my remaining stock of comics: Combat Colin 2 and 3, Derek the Troll, and Brickman Begins. Hope you can join us!

For tickets and other info see the convention website at this link:

Back from Nottingham

My thanks to Kev Brett and his team for a very enjoyable Nottingham Comic Con yesterday. It was my first time as a guest at that show and I really enjoyed it. There was a steady stream of visitors to my table all day so I didn't have time to take many photos. Drew plenty of sketches of a variety of characters from Korky the Cat to Vampirella, and sold a few comics too.

My table neighbours were the writer Michael Robertson and fellow cartoonist Marc Jackson. I hadn't met Michael before so it was good to make his acquaintance. As well as being an author he's also the publisher of Off-Kilter Comics which you can find here:
https://offkiltercomics.bigcartel.com

Marc Jackson is also the editor/publisher of online comic Goof! which you can find here:
https://www.goofcomic.co.uk

It was also good to meet fellow Beano artist Steve Beckett at last, and to catch up with Matt Brooker, The Etherington Brothers, Steve Tanner and his family, - all too briefly unfortunately, and many more.

I was part of a panel on working in mainstream comics, alongside top artists Marc Laming and Chris Wildgoose, interviewed by the cartoonist Brick. An interesting and refreshing interview, focusing more on what the job involves rather than talking about the characters or the industry itself.

All in all, Nottingham Comic Con was a great day, and an ideal show to end my run of conventions for this year (13 in all).

Combat Colin No.3 made its debut at the convention, and will be on my online store sometime this week.

Combat Colin No.3 is here!

To confirm what I hoped in my previous post, I will have a limited number of copies of Combat Colin No.3 on sale exclusively from my table at Nottingham Comic Con this Saturday, 20th October. (It will be available to order online next week when I've received more copies.)

Combat Colin No.3 is another 40 page issue reprinting classic Combat Colin strips that originally appeared in Marvel UK's Transformers comic. This issue covers the period from July 1989 to February 1990 when the strip hit its stride, with Colin (and his assistant Semi-Automatic Steve) encountering monsters, aliens, and new bad guys.

The comic also has a few back-up bonus features, including a look back at the comics that inspired me to create Combat Colin!

Come along to Nottingham Comic Con on Saturday to buy a copy!

See you in Nottingham!

It's Nottingham Comic Con this Saturday (20th October) and you'll find me there, on the lower level at table 49. (See above.) The venue is the Nottingham Conference Centre NG1 4BU.

More info at their website:
http://www.nottinghamcomiccon.co.uk

This is the first time for me at this event so I'm looking forward to it. I've heard good things about this show and it's totally dedicated to comics, so you know that everyone who attends is interested in comics, not actors or wrestlers!

This will be my final convention appearance for this year. My next one is a long way off yet, April of next year.

I'll be bringing along my comics to sell, and hopefully launching Combat Colin No.3 at the event! Another 40 page issue packed with lunacy, collecting stories from 1989 into early 1990. They're only available from me so come along and buy one! (Mail order will be available next week.)

Nottingham at last!

I'm very pleased to announce that I'll be a guest at Nottingham Comic Con on 20th October. I've been invited before but various things prevented it so I'm looking forward to finally being there!

They've interviewed me for their website too, which you can read here:

One week to go...

Next Saturday, on 29th October, I'll be one of the guests at the Nottingham Comic Convention at the Nottingham Conference Centre (above). Other guests from the current British comics scene include Laura Howell, Dan Berry, Rachael Smith, Abby Bulmer, The Etherington Brothers, Roger Langridge, Marc Laming and more!

This will be my first time at the Nottingham con so I'm looking forward to it. I'll be available for sketching on request, and I'll be bringing along my self-published comics Derek the Troll and Brickman Returns, and a few other things. I understand I'm on a panel at some point in the day too. I've no other conventions scheduled for this year after this one so I hope to see some of you there!

For full details of tickets etc, see the official convention website:
