Modern comics, eh? What are they like?

It's been ten years since I made up these fake covers and the shelves of newsagents still look like this. :D 

Thankfully, real comics still exist. Admittedly not in the quantity of comics there used to be, and not as frequent, but comics live on in the form of 2000AD, Judge Dredd Megazine, Beano, The Phoenix, Monster Fun, Battle Action, Quantum, Commando, Pilgrim, various graphic novels and suchlike... and new comics such as Goof...

Tom Thug and... Nemesis the Warlock! This weeks art auction

There are a diverse pair of original art items on my auction listings this week. One of my remaining Tom Thug pages from Oink! (specifically No.46 from 1988) and a fantastic cover by Kevin O'Neill featuring Nemesis the Warlock!

Kev drew this for the covers of my fanzine Fantasy Express back in 1983. I've been reluctant to sell it but I'm afraid needs must. It truly is a fantastic piece of artwork as you can see. Twenty percent of the sale will go to Cancer Research UK.

The Tom Thug page by me also features a mini strip at the bottom starring Tom's Cat Satan. Poor old Satan was never mentioned once Tom Thug moved over to the more traditional Buster comic, but I did put him in the background now and then so readers would know he was safe and well. (And as far as I'm concerned, pets in humour comics never die, so he's still around somewhere.)

DWM 607 Preview

Here's an advance look at one panel of my next Daft Dimension comic strip, plus the cover of Doctor Who Magazine No.607 in which it appears. This month I thought I'd put the Sea Devils in the strip as they haven't been seen for a while.

The Dandy Annual 2025 is here!

The Dandy Annual 2025 has recently been published and is now available to buy! As we all know, the "Christmas annuals" always come out this time of year, giving them lots of shelf time to reach a wider audience. 

Although The Dandy weekly comic ended 14 years ago the Annual proves to still be a good seller so continues to appear every year packed with all new material. This latest edition includes a mixture of classic characters and new characters in brand new stories. 

One of the new characters is Dinah Mo, created by the Dandy editorial team and written and drawn by me. She made her debut in this year's Dandy Summer Special but these stories for the 2025 annual were actually created months before the Special story. (We always work way in advance on the annuals. For example I'm currently doing the Dinah Mo stories for the Dandy Annual 2026 which won't be published until August 2025.)

Scarred For Life

My thanks to the authors of Scarred For Life for a few mentions in the third volume of their history books.
