Here's an advance look at a panel from one of my Dinah Mo stories that will appear in The Dandy Annual 2027 when it goes on sale around September of 2026.
I've written and drawn three Dinah Mo stories for the book, which will run to two pages each. As previously mentioned, this will be my final work for DC Thomson. In fact, most likely my final work in mainstream children's comics.
However, that doesn't mean I'm done with comics altogether! I'm continuing with my Daft Dimension strip in Doctor Who Magazine every month. I'll also be contributing to a few indepenent comics such as The77 and others I can't mention yet.
Plus of course, I still intend to complete my self-published Combat Colin and Brickman comics which should conclude this year. I have other self-publishing plans beyond that but I've learned that due to health and monetary concerns there's no point in making promises. (See here about my health condition.) You'll hear about the comics if and when they're ready.
I hope you'll appreciate that as far as self-publishing goes I'm a one-man outfit, which I prefer as I can follow my own vision. However it also means that I will avoid using crowdfunding as I don't want to accept pledges for projects I might not be able to deliver. The best option for me is to get the work done in advance, save up for printing costs, and then publish the comics when they're set to go.

You can “count me in” for the Combat Colin and Brickman comics 😊😊 How are you feeling these days Lew? I hope things are manageable.
Cheers,
Geoff
Thanks Geoff. Fatigue is the main drawback of CLL so far. Some days are better than others though. I've got a blood test and a check up this week, and another CT scan coming up soon. Possibly a bone marrow biopsy too.
It Is Quite a Bummer that you’re leaving D.C. Thomson permanently and that you are focusing more on your own things to due health complications. And it’s not just you that didn’t drew for last years’ Dandy Annual. I’ve also noticed that Barrie Appleby didn’t make New Cuddles and Dimples stories for the annual, they were done by Steve Beckett, and they don’t look good!(that’s just my opinion, although Barrie still got the change to make new Roger stories for Last Year’s Beano.) Though on the plus side it is glad seeing Andy Fanton doing new artwork for George vs. Dragon, seeing Keyhole Kate, Korky the Cat and Brassneck making a Return and Steve Bright’s Art on Desperate Dan does look very similar to Art from Ken H Harrison when he was doing Dan at the Time, sad that he now no longer draws due to being retired. (hopefully they’ll do something very special for the 2028 Annual, since it’s being released around the time of The Dandy’s 90th Anniversary.)
Nothing lasts forever unfortunately. I was getting less and less work from Thomsons anyway. (I haven't been in the weekly Beano for three years for example.) Upsetting, because I really enjoyed my time on the Beano characters such as Pup Parade, Rasher, Ivy the Terrible, Lord Snooty, etc. I felt my style suited the Beano but it became apparent that hoping to be commissioned for more was increasingly futile and stressful so I decided to sever my ties completely. These days it'd be a struggle to meet a weekly deadline anyway so it's too late now even if they suddenly wanted me back.
That said, Squirrelzilla, if you liked my Dandy / Beano work I hope you'll follow my own comics, which feature a similar tone of comedy but ramped up a bit for older readers. Thankfully not about naughty schoolkids.
