New interview online

Richard Brunton did an interview with John Freeman and me for the 2000AD website on the work we did on the new Cor!! Buster Easter Special. (John wrote the script for the Buster and Delbert strip I drew.) You can read the interview at this link:

  1. Just picked up my copy of Buster and Cor from WH Smiths and thoroughly enjoyed it. Highlights were Buster and Delbert (of course) and Sweeney Toddler.

Can't say I was as impressed with Action though. Hellman was joyless and it was definitely a missed opportunity with Hookjaw!

  2. Good to hear they're in Smiths anyway. (My local branch is closed.)

  3. Its also a Post Office so they have limited 9-3 opening times.

  4. The WHSmiths in Romford has been closed since day one of lockdown, which is surprising because it's the main Post Office for the whole area (and according to the Post Office website, they're supposed to be open)! I've seen an old lady being turned away and probably having to walk a considerable distance to the next nearest one in a small newsagent, which is disgraceful. I hope that some of the publishers who supply exclusively to WHSmiths - which isn't my favourite shop at the best of times - learn from this situation and widen their selection of retail outlets, because I'm sure some of the smaller ones will suffer because of this. I've been waiting to get a magazine since the week before lockdown!

  5. It's pretty tough for publishers really because retail giants such as Asda and Sainsburys only want comics with cover mounts or bagged with toys, and they charge a lot for shelf space.

I'd heard the plan was that during lockdown more corner shops would take comics, but that doesn't seem to have worked. Not around here anyway. My local shop had the Cor!! Buster Special, and a shop about a mile and half away has 2000AD, but that's it. (I decided to subscribe to 2000AD. After some initial delay due to loads of new subscribers they sorted it out and the comic arrives on Moday, two days before it's in shops.)
