The Giggly Sisters!

When I was doing the Combat Colin strip I started to introduce a few supporting characters who would occasionally turn up in the stories. Two of which were the Giggly Sisters, identical twins who became the regular girlfriends of Colin and Semi-Automatic Steve. (They also later became a bit more proactive than just being, well, giggly.)

This is their first appearance (I think) from The Transformers No.196, December 1988.

I'm not sure if I've mentioned this anywhere before but the Giggly Sisters were originally inspired by the Pigeon Sisters in the 1968 movie The Odd Couple

  1. Colin seems to have appeared in a number of different places Lew, but somehow it seems you've retained copyright?

If that's the case would it be ok to ask how you did so - he's appeared in Marvel UK mags, hasn't he?

    1. When's the strip ended with the final issue of The Transformers I asked for the rights back. As Marvel UK were undergoing a huge revamp at the time towards grittier comics they agreed because they couldn't see themselves using it again. I made sure I had it in writing of course.

  2. Spot the Smiley face motif on the wall picture. Love those little details!

    1. Yes, the smiley became a recurring motif. Well, a version of it with the tongue sticking out anyway. (Long before emoticons of course.)

  3. As a wise man said, I think it was Confucius, "It's nice to be nice!". I've kept that with me through my life.

I loved the old Transformers comic. They've reprinted a few in trade paperback, one day I'll find a complete set in a car boot sale. Better find some car boot sales.

BTW what was the Giggly Sister who wasn't called Julie called?

    Sam xxx.

    1. Thanks Sam. Julie Giggly's twin sister was Joanne.

  4. "Look out! Steve's gone yampy!"

Ah, there's another one. You big influence on my childhood, you! AND I loved Oink. I probably picked up more from you as a kid than I did from my own parents. Lucky, really.

And I still read Viz. Even though Eight Ace was never funny. AND even though those not-too-funny people who ran Zit into the ground seem to have taken over.

Tho I liked some of the stuff in Zit, some of the creators were good, a lot of it seemed permeated through with over-smoked paranoia.
